Mindful Self-Check In: Simple Practices for Personal Reflection & Growth
Oftentimes, wellness professionals talk about checking in with yourself. This is valuable, as it is easy to get stuck in patterns without realizing it. This can also be easily thrown to the wayside. Here are some ways you can check in with yourself.
We can check in on ourselves by:
Self-reflection: Did my actions reflect my values? Was I able to communicate myself effectively? Did I respect myself and others?
Feedback from a friend or family member: Consider going over this with a trusted person.
Reflecting on our actions: Do I feel good about the actions that I engaged in with this person or in this situation?
Environments: Am I representing myself the way I want to in my different settings?
Routines: Is there a habit or routine I am not engaging in and want to? Why is that? Does the whole routine not work for me or just a certain part of it? If this is important to me, how can I alter this routine to make it easier to engage in?
How our body feels: Check in with your body to see how it is feeling. Oftentimes, this will let us know what we need.
How we feel mentally: Check in with yourself mentally. Are you able to separate fact from fiction in your mind? What do you need to get back to yourself?
Recently, I went to choose an emoji for a text I was sending and pondered on my “frequently used” emojis. What are these saying about my communication with others? What are these saying about me? Do these really reflect where I’m at or what I’m feeling? Check out some of my frequently used emojis at the end.
I encourage you to check in with yourself, whatever that looks like! It could be a quick peek at your “frequently used” emojis or one of the options previously mentioned. What do you notice?
