How Values Shape Our Actions and Wellbeing
A lot of things in life are about responding to something that has just happened. These responses can be physical and emotional. How we respond to these situations plays an important role in how we feel afterward.
How we respond to something can make us feel better or worse. When we respond in a way that aligns with our values, we typically feel better about our actions. Conversely, when we respond in a way that doesn’t align with our values, it might make us feel better in the moment but worse later on.
How do you want to feel after it’s all done?
For me, I feel worse when I respond in a way that is not in line with my values and better when I respond in a way that does align with them. Sometimes, when I’m finding something difficult and choose to go for a walk, I usually come back in a better mood with a better mindset, and therefore make choices that align with my values. Other times, when I’m finding something difficult and retreat into myself and stop doing things that are important to me, I usually end up feeling worse than before.
The next time you need to respond to something that has just happened, see if you can take a moment to notice where your response lies. Does it align with your values? What kind of response does the situation deserve? How will you go from there?
Food for thought.
Be well 💜
