Mastering Your Moments: Dealing with Challenging Situations
How often does something that you pictured in your mind about a person or a situation actually happen? We have a tendency to grandize things in our own heads instead of seeing the situation for what it is. A lot of times, we need awareness and courage to deal with the difficulty at hand. It's how you handle these times that will make the situation more or less manageable for you.
How can you practice the strategies that help you deal with difficulty?
What are the positive ways you are going to deal with this?
How will you remind yourself to use these tools when you need them?
Next time you're feeling overwhelmed by a feeling or situation, take a step back to notice, non-judgmentally, what the facts are about it, maybe even write them down so that you can SEE them. Then think about how you want to feel at the end of this. Do you want to feel drained or somewhat shaken?
Visualizations can be very powerful to changing your behavior!
How you handle things during difficult times relates to how you FEEL during those times and can exacerbate that. Think about how you want to manage your feelings during this time. What helps you to feel more like yourself? a walk, coffee with a friend, a shower, dancing in your living room, whatever it is write those things down so that you have them next time you need them and practice them when you don’t need them at all! Contacting these moments of joy, doing things that you like, throughout the day will definitely improve your day! 🎉
